A sudden spurt in crime has caused great embarrassment to the Nitish Kumar government and raised the spectre of the return of Jungle Raj in the state as a sub-inspector was allegedly shot dead by bike-borne assailants in Gaurakshini area in Patna district on Monday afternoon.Sub-inspector Suresh Thakur was returning to Miranchi police station, where he was posted after obtaining a notice for property attachment in a case from Barh court when he was shot dead. Police suspect that his service revolver was also taken away by the culprits as it was found to be missing.

The rise in crime rate is serving as a grim reminder about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.Earlier in February, BJP state vice-president Vishweshwar Ojha was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Arra district while returning from a wedding, exactly around 12 hours after BJP leader Kedarnath Singh was murdered in Chappra.The Opposition BJP had then said that the CM is only attending meetings to control law and order but criminals are out of control. His will to control crime has come to an end.
