Four awarded life sentence in dowry death case

Four members of a family, including a woman, were on Saturday sentenced by a local court to life imprisonment in a dowry death case in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district.Additional District Judge-VI, Satyendra Kumar Thakur, passed the order convicting the four, including the victim’s husband Balendu Sahni and mother-in-law Kalwati Devi, to life imprisonment after finding them guilty in the murder case of one Suruchi Devi five years ago.

According to prosecution, Devi was burnt to death by her husband, his two brothers and their mother, in a village under Kurhani police station on June 21, 2011, after her family had failed to meet dowry demands from her in-laws.
