Chhapra: The Saran police on Friday arrested two persons who were allegedly involved in firing at former Marhoura legislator Lal Babu Rai at Ponjhi Kapoor village under the Marhoura police station area on Thursday night.Rai was elected as an independent MLA in 2010, but later joined the JD (U). As a BJP candidate, he lost the last assembly election to Jitendra Kumar Rai of the RJD.

Police said the former MLA was attacked by criminals who disagreed with his arbitration in a dispute over playing Holi. However, he escaped unhurt due to arrival of police.According to Marhoura ASP Ashok Kumar Singh, the arrested persons are Dilip Rai of Dhamauli and Sheo Ranjan Singh of Ponjhi Kapoor villages. The former legislator in his FIR has named Saheb Rai and nine others. Saheb has been booked in past in connection with illegal liquor trade, the ASP
